MDMC Meeting Minutes - Saturday, January 9, 2010

Pizza Cellar - Blooming Prairie, MN •  Lunch 11:30 am - Meeting 1:00 pm

 

The meeting was called to order by Todd Bergland, president.  There were 46 members in attendance.  Minutes were read from the January 10, 2009 Annual meeting.  Jan Petersen amended the minutes to note that the By Laws had been revised in 2002.  The minutes where then approved. The Treasurer’s  Report was read by Cynthia Kelley and approved by unanimous vote.  (Motion: Ron Denn/Kraig Thoreson)  Note: Treasurer’s report is listed in each of the Quarterly Newsletters.  The balance as of 1/10/2009 stands at $1,751.90.  There was one expenditure since the last newsletter report of $150 for the purchase of the mule and donkey calendars.

 

Old Business:

 

Clothing Sales – Beth Smith brought all the clothing that is left.  After discussion it was decided if someone would like to request the set-up of the logo, which belongs to the club, they may contact Beth Smith and she will get the information so it is made available to other vendors. New Business:

 

MN Horse Expo - April 23-25, 2010 – Gary Wagennaar will again be in charge of this event.  Cost for this event is $725/stalls + $125/wrist bands for those helping with the event by bringing animals.  A generous donation of $300 was promised by Tom Helfter.  A motion was made and approved to allocate $550 from the club for this event. (Motion: Jan Petersen/Jim Crowl)  Anyone wishing to help at the Expo or would like to bring animals contact Gary Wagenaar.

 

Discussion was held regarding a MDMC banner to have at expos, shows or other events.  Jim Benson made a motion to allow up to $200 to purchase a banner or banners.  A committee of Tammy Helmers, Ron Denn and Beth Smith will get prices and decide what kind of banner(s) should be purchased. New Show – Grant Program.  Discussion was held regarding possible new shows in other areas of MN who may need financial help in getting started.  It was decided that if someone is interested in organizing a new show, an application process will be used. A grant in the amount of $50 will be given.  There will only be one New Show Grant given per year.  The show must have at least 10 events to qualify. (Motion: Lisa Denn/Tammy Helmers)

 

2010 Club Trail Rides

- Spring Trail Ride - Host: Tim Christopher/Tammy Helmers Date:  May 14-16   Location: Tim Christohper’s

- Fall Trail Ride - Host: Ron Denn  Date: Sept. 18-20    Location: Sand Dunes – near Zimmerman, MN

- Last Chance Ride – Host: Dallas & Betty Smith   Date: October 1-3    Location: Fort Ridgley

 

It was decided that meat will be provided by the club for the Fall Trail Ride and Last Chance Trail Ride.  (The meal at the Spring Ride is done by individual donation already arranged for this ride.)  Up to $100 can be spent of each of the trail rides.  (Motion: Kraig Thoreson/Jim Benson)

 

NOTE:  ALL TRAIL RIDE INFORMATION must be submitted to Laura Redding to be placed on the website and in the quarterly newsletter prior to the newsletter deadline date.   Information to be included is as follows: Contact person(s) phone number, dates of the event, directions to the site of the trail ride, cost for camping, and and RSVP number so appropriate meat can be obtained.

Other Events:

Another event being planned for February 20th is Sleigh and Cutter Party organized by Cynthia Kelley and Todd Bergland at their home near Austin.  More information will be on the website.  Chili and hot chocolate/coffee will be provided.  Please bring a pot to pass and BYOB.  RSVP to Todd Bergland (507) 383 0275 or Cynthia Kelley (507) 202 7631.

A unanimous vote was obtained to re-elect  the officers who served during the 2009 year for the 2010 term.  

It was noted that Laura Redding has done an excellent job with the website and the newsletter.  Members appreciate all the work she has done for the club through the website and newsletter.

 

Other Discussion:  Beth Smith mentioned she would like to see the club possibly donate some amount of money to an animal rescue organization.  Ron Denn stated that the MN Hooved Animal Rescue have a program called the Trainer’s Challenge.  Trainers are given an animal and then it is sold at a later date with the money going back to the Rescue Organization.  It was decided to sponsor a mule for the Trainer’s Challenge in the amount of a $100 sponsorship. Next year’s MDMC Annual meeting will be held on January 8, 2011 at the Pizza Cellar in Blooming Prairie.
